National Institute of Genealogical Research (NIGR) Registration Time

If you are thinking of attending the National Institute on Genealogical Research (NIGR), a week-long institute at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., then it is time to be sure your name is on the mailing list. The NIGR web site gives all the details on the program, which will be held July 10-15, 2011. Fill out the form on the web site to join the mailing list, as the brochures are mailed early in February. Once you receive your brochure be sure to send in your registration form as soon as possible as the institute is limited to about 40 participants and fills quickly. Registration is handled via U.S. mail.

The focus of this institute is on using federal records for genealogical research. The program covers commonly used records such as immigration, military, land and naturalization, as well as lesser-known federal records useful to family historians. There are optional evening sessions at the Library of Congress and the DAR Library.
